Daily Scripture and Prayer- 1 Peter 3:3-4

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”- 1 Peter 3:3-4

God is beautiful! He is the creator of all things and enjoys crafting our own beautiful world as we walk with Him in this life. As spiritual beings living in a natural world (but spiritual reality), God is asking that we adorn ourselves internally and not be overly concerned with outward appearance. The spirit person or “hidden person of the heart” is what God is concerned with. It is hard for many of us to grasp that we should focus on inner beauty because of our flesh driven world that focuses purely on outward appearance.  What is true, according to scripture, is that the styling of our hair, jewelry, fancy clothes do not impress God.  The  Holy Spirit of God that indwells in us is constantly fashioning us in the beautiful image of our invisible God.  The Spirit pours into us the transforming power of the love of our God.  As we transform and heed the commands and leading of God we adorn ourselves with spiritual “styling” and  God does a work to makeover our lives.

Prayer: Please, Father, help us focus on the imperishable beauty of our inner spirit.  As we keep our eyes fixed on you help us drown out the distractions and lies of this world that seek to tell us who we are and what we are. Help us to appreciate and see beauty the way that you do and overcome any insecurities that we may have battling with our fleshy bodies.  We can be grateful that You are adorning us with your qualities so that when we look in the mirror of Your Word we will see Your adoring reflection looking back at us. (James 1:23, 24) In the Name of Jesus, we pray, Amen
